Job Seekers Fitness Event – Physical Fitness

I had the priviledge of being a part of a panel for a Job Seeker event locally here in Denver that revolved around FITNESS in ALL areas to be balanced while on the job hunt.  The panel was comprised of a group of experts on the following: Financial Fitness, Physical Fitness, Mental Fitness, Emotional Fitness, Spiritual Fitness and Professional Fitness.  I had a limited time to speak on the PHYSICAL FITNESS aspect and it’s value in the midst of being unemployed.  The time went by so fast… that immediately I realized I wouldn’t be able to squeeze in all of  the things I had hoped to share.  So I thought the next best thing would be to re-cap on what I did say as well as what I didn’t get to!

I know from experience how easy it is to get discouraged and to find yourself sitting on the couch with your computer on your lap for HOURS on end and then to look up at the clock and realize that it’s the end of the day already and your significant other is coming home soon and you have NOTHING to show for your day!  It perpetuates feelings of guilt, shame and resentment and ultimately a negative energy in your home.

It’s so easy to alienate yourself and hide inside your own personal bubble,  to hide away and find yourself alone during this process.  Instead, it’s vital to  stay connected with your friends as well as other networking social events.   GET OUT and DO SOMETHING… ANYTHING!  It doesn’t have to cost money… and it will pay back huge dividends because you were able to have a release and come back with a fresh mind.

Think of when you were working full time… what was your excuse then for not working out?

“I don’t have the time!”  Am I right?

In addition, what was your excuse then for running through the drive-thru or stopping and getting a ridiculously high calorie, self-sabotaging meal… because you didn’t have time to go to the store, come home and take the steps to prepare a healthy dinner?

Again, “I don’t have the time!”

SO…….!  THIS is your TIME!   Seize THIS as YOUR OPPORTUNITY to set aside time to to better yourself while creating healthy patterns of exercise and creating healthier meals.    It’s actually a fun little challenge to yourself to become the most fit you’ve ever been!  Not only in mind, spirit and professionally… but physically!  When you look better – you feel better – when you feel better – natural, true confidence simply exudes from you effortlessly and you will be seen as someone that is driven and committed and someone that simply can’t be passed up for the right position!

When we are physically fit, we walk taller, with pride and with confidence.  We are in turn not only nicer to those around us, especially our loved ones, but we draw others to us.  Who ISN’T looking for that in an employee?

Motivation

What motivates you?  What inspires you?  What kinds of things do you like to do to be moving your body?

What I think is SUPER fun, you might think is silly or boring!  And vice versa… so I can’t tell you to all come in to my gyms and come hit my kickboxing class and you’re life will be renewed!  Because that’s not necessarily true!   You have to find your “soul-mate” work-out.  If you hate running, you shouldn’t commit to running at the gym every day.  If you hate being outside, then you should find something indoors that you can do.

Some people say you only need to work-out  2-3 times a week and for only 10-15 minutes.  I say… GREAT!  …TO START… but then… you should be adding on each week until you are doing something at LEAST 5 days a week and up to at least 30 minute work-outs and continuing to build on that!

What moves you?  List three moving activities that you enjoy doing where you can actually break a sweat:

Accountability is KEY!  I run 90-Day Challenges with many of the various workouts that I love for other people that are doing it on their own but in tandem with others doing the same workouts.  And the LOUDEST CRY that I hear when we are nearing the end of the 90 days of  a challenge is, “PLEASE CAN WE CONTINUE THIS GROUP WHEN THIS CHALLENGE IS OVER?  It is what motivates me and encourages me.  I know I have to check in with people and so I do it!”  It is this type of accountability that makes ALL the difference!

ACCOUNTABILITY – find people that will meet up with you somewhere to do something active with you.

Plan of action:

  1. You’ve decided on a few things that you can do to get yourself moving – SCHEDULE THEM on YOUR CALENDAR
  2. You’ve narrowed down a few people that you can ask to help to keep you accountable – TALK to THEM and get them on board with you – find someone here!
  3. DRESS THE PART!   The first thing in the morning when you get up – put on your workout clothes.  More likely NOT to make excuses if you’re already dressed for it!
  4. TELL THE WORLD  Put it on your calendar AND post it to your FACEBOOK,  LinkedIN AND TWITTER!  The more people you tell, the more accountable you are.
